🧺 How to Care for Merino Wool Items
Share
Merino yarn is one of the most beloved among knitters, as it is incredibly soft, warm, and pleasant to the touch. However, to keep your creations looking beautiful and lasting for years, it’s important to care for them properly.
✨ Here are some essential tips:
1. Hand Washing
Merino doesn’t like hot water or harsh wringing. Use cool water (30 °C / 86 °F) and a special detergent for wool. Gently submerge the item in water, avoiding any rubbing.
2. Drying
Do not twist or wring the fabric. Carefully blot with a towel, then lay flat on a dry surface to air dry. This way, your item will keep its shape.
3. Storage
Always store merino items folded rather than on hangers. For extra protection, use lavender or cedar sachets to keep moths away.
4. Ironing
Usually, merino doesn’t require ironing. If necessary, use a steamer or set your iron to the “wool” mode, keeping it slightly above the fabric without pressing directly.
5. Avoid Dry Cleaning
Merino wool is natural and delicate, and the best way to care for it is gentle washing at home.
